Peugeot 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport review (2014-2021) – interior and design

An exciting hot hatch with typical French quirks

Evo rating
RRP
from £29,000
  • Sophisticated dynamics, performance, style inside and out
  • Interior layout may completely rule the car out for some

The Peugeot 308 GTi’s interior does a good job of telling you about the car’s sporting credentials. Red highlights have been applied just about everywhere, from the gearknob to the dash. Sporty Alcantara wrapped bucket seats help make the car feel that little bit more special, too.

The unusually small and compact steering wheel (351mm x 329mm) feels unnerving initially but you quickly adapt to it. The biggest problem is how the wheel interacts with the dials. Peugeot expect the driver to be able to see the instruments over the top of the small wheel. For a lot of people though, the steering wheel feels uncomfortable positioned so low and the wheel then obscures the lower part of the dials.

Changes to the 308’s exterior are subtle, but not shouty. A red strip at the front is unique to the GTi, while a black radiator grille, bigger air intakes and twin exhausts at the back, all ensure the car looks the part.
