Porsche Cayenne S Coupe joins the range with Audi RS4-derived twin-turbo V6

New S Coupe complements Cayenne S wagon and will sit between the standard Coupe and Turbo

Porsche has expanded the Cayenne Coupe range with the mid-level S model. It shares the same twin-turbo V6 petrol engine as found in the Cayenne S, in this case matched to the Cayenne Coupe’s wider bodywork and lower roofline. Available to order now from £73,658 in the UK, deliveries will commence in late summer.

Powering the Cayenne S Coupe is a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre hot-V V6, one closely related to that found in the Audi RS4. Power is rated at 434bhp, with 405lb ft of torque available between 1800 and 5500rpm. That power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Having a hot-V engine design (unusual for a V6), the turbos are mounted between the two cylinder banks which aids both response and packaging. The Cayenne S Coupe won’t be the last new derivative either, with the e-Hybrid and Turbo S E-hybrid also on their way.

The Cayenne S Coupe will hit 62mph in 5.0sec. Specify the lightweight sports pack and that will drop to 4.9sc, thanks in part to the bundled weight savings of a carbonfibre roof panel and forged 22-inch wheels. The top speed is rated at 163mph.

Like other Cayenne Coupes the roofline sits 20mm lower, but due to the heavy standard-fit glass roof the centre of gravity isn’t any lower compared to that of the standard car. The body is 18mm wider across the rear, and features a standard active rear wing to trim the aero at high speed and reduce lift.

Despite being built on shared underpinnings with the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and others, the latest Cayenne is still close to the top of the class for handling prowess. The Cayenne Coupe should only bolster this reputation, but we’ll have to wait for our first drive in a few weeks to be absolutely sure.
