2019 Volvo V60 review - is the new V60 estate the best of its kind? - Design

Volvo’s latest V60 is a brilliant estate car, but rather less entertaining to drive than it could be

  • Superb comfort, intelligence, capability. Great to look at, and sit in too
  • Not sporty, and if you’re not into four-pots it might be a problem

If you’ve been a fan of Volvo’s sophisticated, elegant new design language over the last few years, the V60 will appeal just as much. On first sight it might look a little too familiar, but study the details and the V60’s more dynamic, expressive and considered design becomes clear. Key Volvo elements are still present and correct though, including the slim LED headlights, rectangular grille and upright tail lights.

Despite the sportier ambitions of the V60, compared to the extreme fall of the larger V90’s rakish silhouette the V60 is rather more upright and compromises less on interior boot space. Wheel sizes vary between 18- and 20-inch, the latter exclusive to Polestar Engineered T8 models.

Whether optioned up with all the sporting paraphernalia, or in basic Momentum specification with sensible wheels, the V60 is superbly detailed, wonderfully resolved and superbly executed, appealing in a way few Volvos ever have as a desirable, rather than just a practical, proposition.
