Abarth 595 – MPG and running costs

Economy in the 40s should be possible in normal use, though so-so CO2 figures mean tax costs aren’t as low as some superminis

Evo rating
  • Funky design; nimble handling; strong performance
  • Lacks finesse and adjustability; bouncy ride

No Abarth 595 or 695 is obscenely thirsty or polluting, but with a focus on performance there are certainly more frugal options out there. Combined fuel consumption ranges between 42.8mpg for the 595 and 41.5mpg for the Competizione, while CO2 output covers a small scale from 151g/km to 155g/km. Figures in the 40s seem realistic in normal use.

Abarth’s warranty wasn’t overly generous, covering parts and labour for two years, though an extra 12-month retailer warranty sits on top of that. Paint defects are warranted for 36 months and corrosion for eight years, though the latter isn’t as much an issue with Fiats as it used to be...

Given its low weight and relatively modest power, the Abarth is unlikely to chew through consumables, but expect to pay around £600 for a new set of 17-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 5s including fitting.
