Thought you couldn't improve on the Alpine A110? Ravage had other ideas and we've driven the result – car pictures of the week
In the latest issue of evo, we drive Ravage’s stunning A110 Group 4 in the French Alps – these are our favourite shots
If you’re going to tamper with the Alpine A110 – one of the greatest sports cars of the modern era – you need to know what you’re doing. Thankfully, French firm Ravage Automobile does, and its comprehensive rally-inspired reworking of the lightweight sports car has resulted in something truly special – a widebody, Group 4-style A110 with up to 338bhp, and a price tag not far beyond that of a new Porsche 911 GTS.
In issue 343 of evo, we head to the Col de Turini in France to sample the Ravage A110 Group 4 on roads that regularly feature on the Monte Carlo Rally, and meet the man behind its creation. To read the full story, pick up a copy of evo 343 in-store or online via the evo shop.
Formerly Head of Design at McLaren, Ravage CEO Benoît Tallec began dreaming up his idea of the perfect reimagined A110 when it first appeared in 2016. Tallec, along with a friend specialising in engineering, wanted to fulfill the car’s potential outside of EU regulations and the constraints of a large OEM, and thus came up with a Group 4 rally-inspired machine with bespoke bodywork, reworked mechanicals and a wide scope for customisation, to be built from donor A110s.
It’s not cheap – not including the base car the conversion starts from €105,570, rising to €130,948 if you go for Ravage’s 338bhp Stage 3 engine – but as evo’s Richard Meaden found out, the end result is an exotic, bespoke-feeling A110 of the kind we haven’t seen before.
‘The combined effect of the upgrades is outstanding; amplified character and capability but suffering no distortion of Alpine’s aesthetics or engineering philosophy, and no unwanted mutation of its dynamic DNA. The Ravage Groupe 4 shines with individualism and confidence of expression that comes from an independent passion project.’
