New Audi Q2 review – Is Audi’s smallest SUV worthy of the premium badge? - Performance and 0-60

Audi’s most compact SUV is as impressive as it probably needed to be, but no more

  • Quality interior, impressive engines
  • Only competent handling and not particularly exciting

Performance and 0-60mph time

Performance from the Q2’s engine range is typical of a MQB platform product, but without the higher output engines one might find in a VW Golf or Audi A3. Kicking off the range is a three-cylinder 1-litre TFSI, dispatching the 0-62mph sprint in 10.1sec, 0.2sec ahead of the 1.6-litre turbo diesel.

Q2s fitted with the 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol will hit 62mph in 8.5sec, while top spec 2.0 TDIs fitted with quattro all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch S-tronic gearbox drop this time down to 8.1sec.

Comparatively, the performance figures are about right for the class, but without a hot, or even warm petrol model on sale as yet, drivers after a bit more performance might have to stray towards the new and expensive Mini Countryman Cooper Works. Rumours persist of an S3 powered SQ2, with test vehicles having been spied running big wheels and sizeable brakes, but Audi has yet to confirm a release date.
