Audi SQ7 TDI (2016-2020) review – MPG and running costs

Audi’s biggest S model digs deep into its technical arsenal to create a talented, if somewhat joyless SUV, but then aren’t they all?

We averaged between 29-30mpg in our time with the SQ7, and for a diesel SUV that’s not great. However, for a performance SUV it's remarkably efficient. Audi quotes higher figures (from 32-43mpg depending on wheel size and use), but start to revel in the SQ7’s mighty performance and you won’t see much more than 30mpg.

The electromechanically adjustable anti-roll bars, unlike more conventional hydraulically adjustable ones, require no oil or maintenance so shouldn’t cost anything in the future.

Tyres will be a big expenditure. The standard fitment is 285/45 20, and performance tyres in such a large size don’t come cheap. The optional 20 and 21-inch wheels will need even more expensive rubbe
