Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport - chosen by those in the know (advertisement feature)

The perfect choice for those looking to extract every last drop of performance, we run down Goodyear's Eagle F1 SuperSport range

Porsche knows a thing or two about ultra high performance cars. That’s why it has been a multiple winner of evo Car of the Year, and victor in countless group tests. So when Porsche picks Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS tyres as its recommended trackday tyre for the iconic 911 GT2 RS and GT3 RS models, you can be certain that the decision was based on the fact that they are the best tools for the job.

While the F1 SuperSport RS is specifically designed for Porsche’s most extreme, track-oriented road cars, the rest of the F1 SuperSport range of UUHP (Ultra Ultra High Performance) tyres is available in a broad range of popular sizes to fit a variety of evo-championed cars from hot hatches to everyday supercars. What every tyre in the range shares, though, is the benefit of Goodyear’s huge experience of top-flight motorsport in many track-based disciplines.

The range

Eagle F1 SuperSport

Suitable for: Hot hatches such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI, high-performance saloons including the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63, and everyday supercars such as the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Sizes: There are 25 Eagle F1 SuperSport fitments, ranging from 18 to 20in diameters, 205 to 305mm widths, and 45 to 30 profiles (aspect ratio).

Dynamic characteristics: With its design centred on extreme dry surface grip and safe yet entertaining handling, the Eagle F1 SuperSport’s shoulders are dominated by a massive closed outside pattern that provides precise control during load transfers in corners. Meanwhile, stiff tread ribs aid agility in high-speed directional changes. Handling is also enhanced by super-stiff sidewall construction: despite this, ride quality isn’t unduly compromised.

While the very nature of UUHP tyres makes dry grip and handling prowess a priority, Goodyear has also innovatively addressed wet surface performance by deploying diff erent rubber compounds across the width of the tyre – the outer sections feature a dry-optimised compound, while there are three wet-optimised central segments. Thus the Eagle F1 SuperSport offers exceptional wet braking and handling performance, whilst at the same time providing outstanding roadholding in the dry.

Eagle F1 SuperSport R

Suitable for: The types of cars that evo relishes – cars developed with high performance as their primary goal, including the likes of the Volkswagen Golf Club Sport, BMW M4 Club Sport and Porsche 911 GT3.

Sizes: The Eagle F1 SuperSport R is available in 10 fitments spanning diameters of 18 to 20in, widths between 205 and 305mm, and profiles (aspect ratios) ranging from 40 to 25.

Dynamic characteristics: The Eagle F1 SuperSport R takes grip levels and steering precision to another dimension, even compared with those of the outstanding ‘regular’ Eagle F1 SuperSport. The additional roadholding is courtesy of a special high-friction rubber compound, while bridges in the tread pattern’s inner groove – which reduce the deformation of tread blocks during extreme cornering – add to stability in high-speed bends.

And thanks to the optimisation of the Eagle F1 SuperSport R’s footprint to promote more consistent pressure distribution, steering precision and feedback are improved.

Eagle F1 SuperSport RS

Suitable for: Not so much ‘suitable for’ but ‘designed specifically for’ the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and GT2 RS, both awesome track cars and amongst evo’s all-time favourites. The Eagle F1 SuperSport RS is Porsche’s preferred trackday tyre for these models.

Sizes: Only two sizes are available – 265/35 ZR20 for the front wheels, and 325/30 ZR21 for the rears.

Dynamic characteristics: Although it is road legal, the Eagle F1 SuperSport RS is Goodyear’s most race-focused tyre, and its special rubber compound can trace its roots directly to the company’s motorsport operations. The dry surface grip it generates for track work is extraordinary, and combined with excellent steering stability and feedback allows owners of 911 GT2 RS and GT3 RS models to extract the ultimate from their cars’ chassis.
