Ford Fiesta ST Mk7 review (2013-2017) – MPG and running costs

The ST was evo’s favourite junior hot hatch, hopefully the new one will be just as fun.

Evo rating
  • Great value, deeply involving chassis
  • Interior feels older than its model year suggests

Ford claims that the Fiesta ST will achieve 47.9mpg on the combined cycle. Our own tests suggest closer to 38mpg is more realistic in mixed driving, but that will drop sharply when you start to you use all of the car’s performance. The ST’s EcoBoost engine is among the most fuel efficient engines of its type, though, and it should return better fuel economy than the Renaultsport Clio 200 or Vauxhall Corsa VXR and similar to the surprisingly frugal 208 GTI.

The Fiesta ST is rated at 138g/km of CO2, which undercuts most of its rivals, and the 30E insurance group rating is average for the class. The manufacturer warranty lasts for three years or 60,000 miles and the service interval is 12,500 miles.

'Nobody could ever complain about the Ford’s fuel consumption. A consistent mpg average in the high 30s was remarkable given the eagerness of the 1.6-litre turbo and the subsequent thrashings it would receive. I also treated the ST to superunleaded when I could, as the engine seemed to respond well to it and gain a little more aggression.' Henry Catchpole (evo 214).
