Beijing show: Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG

The Mercedes G-Wagen has been updated, and the new G63 has been launched at the Beijing motor show. Full details and images here

Beijing show: Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG

Mercedes-Benz showed its facelifted G63 AMG at Beijing, and the car - which is powered by the excellent 5.5-litre Biturbo V8 - will be coming to the UK, continuing the evergreen off-roader's long life for a few years yet. New styling features are the revised front bumper and grille, with moody looking side-mounted exhausts to complement the five-spoke AMG alloy wheels. The car replaces the G55 AMG, and adds 43bhp and 44lb ft to that car's already impressive outputs. All-wheel drive is permanent, and a reprogrammed version of the seven-speed transmission system used in other Biturbo models is used. Acceleration is seriously impressive for this 2.5-tonne monster, with a 0-62mph time of 5.4 secs, which is quicker than the outgoing G55, but fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are usefully improved.
