221mph Porsche 911 GT2

Wimmer Racing Technology unleashes 671bhp Porsche 997 GT2 Bi-turbo, which tops 220mph

Do you consider the Porsche 911 GT2 a little bit tame? Always needed a bit more power, hasn’t it? Step forward Wimmer Rennsporttechnik RS, the very German-sounding company behind this mad GT2 Bi-turbo.

There’s tweaks to the 911 GT2’s 3.6-litre’s engine management while the twin-turbos are replaced with optimised Wimmer turbochargers.

The result? A faintly startling 671bhp, an improvement of nearly 150bhp, while torque makes a similar leap from 501 to 642lb ft. There’s a development of the cylinder head, sports camshafts, a new sports clutch and a custom-built Wimmer sports exhaust. The latter gets Zeller sport catalysts as well as a shed-load more noise…

The modified 911 will hit 62mph in 3.4sec (over half a second than we managed when figuring the stock GT2), do 0-124mph in 9.78sec, and hit 186mph (or a rounder 300kph) in 25.8sec. Top speed is a not unreasonable 221mph, making this one of the quickest supercars around.

Looks-wise, things are kept nicely subtle save for some decals, while there’s smart new dished 20in Sportec alloys wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx GT rubber, designed to handle all the extra speed.

The price of all the extras, including fitting, is 29,800 euros – about £27,000 at current exchange rates, giving a total of around £155K. Not too shabby when you factor in the performance on offer. Head to www.wimmer-rst.de if you want more details.
