Audi SQ7 – MPG and running costs

A 500bhp V8 and 2.2+ ton kerb weight isn’t a recipe for efficient motoring, and consumables will be pricey

from £95,730
  • Refinement, comfort and flexible V8 make for an effortless family car
  • Cabin feels clinical; it’s a heavy beast

Running costs probably aren’t high on the priority list if you’re in the market for a 500bhp V8 SUV. If that’s a concern, it might be worth looking at the pre-2020 SQ7, which used a 4-litre V8 diesel engine. That car achieved 29-30mpg in our hands, but this latest petrol model gets a claimed 23.2mpg, which inevitably plummets when you start using its performance.

Consumables such as tyres and brakes won’t be cheap to replace either, which you’ll probably need to do more often than usual given the power and mass they’re dealing with. Expect to fork out around £1400 for a new set of 22-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres including fitting.
