Skoda Octavia vRS (2014-2019) review - interior and tech

Not the most fun, but well-rounded and good value too

Evo rating
  • Value, practicality and impressive pace in a handsome form
  • Not as sharp as some, 4x4 model diesel-only

The Octavia has always been a model of practicality and the latest model, bigger than its predecessors, is even more cavernous inside. There’s plenty of room for front and rear seat passengers and the boot is vast, while every passenger gets a comfy pew.

There’s also plenty of adjustment in the driver’s seat and the steering wheel, so finding the perfect driving position is easy for most. What the driver sees when they’re there is unlikely to stir the soul however – Skoda’s cabins are well-built and inoffensive to the eyes, but hardly the type to stir your soul.

With excellent ergonomics and clear controls they’re great for day-to-day use though, and where you might get tired of the craziness of some hot hatch cabins, the Octavia’s should blend into your life with minimal strain.

The technology inside is simple and works effectively, but that’s about all there is to say. It’s possible to hop in, set your destination, climate control and audio settings just-so and embark upon your journey with minimal fuss. Again, it’s not likely to appeal to tech freaks, but it’s unlikely to cause frustration like an ultra-modern, high-tech approach might.
