BMW X4 review - What is BMW's mini X6 like? - Design

The small SUV coupe is undoubtedly capable, but it just isn't as talented as other, more performance oriented SUVs

Price
from £37,900
  • Comfortable with a range of impressive diesel engines
  • Doesn't have the agility of other sporting SUVs

Design

There’s no doubt about it, the X4 looks strange; it looks too high for a coupe and too low for an SUV. But what it lacks in grace and elegance it makes up for in individuality as its certainly recognisable.

There’s something very flamboyant about eschewing the ordinarily practical boxy body of SUV and replacing it with one of coupe, yet maintain the size and dominant driving position. So despite the X4 being the smaller and cheaper of BMW’s sleek off roaders it still manages to look ostentatious. To some, that alone will be invaluable.

The X4 can come with optional Adaptive LED headlights. Twin rings each side, that light up as daytime running lights, help give the X4 a distinctive BMW front-end and the indicator sits in the brow of the lights. As they are adaptive, the headlights pan with the steering, dip automatically and vary the light they cast to improve vision at night.
