Kia Proceed GT review - All-round appeal for a competitive price - Kia Proceed GT MPG and running costs

A talented all-rounder, but one lacking the final few degrees of performance and ability to put it among the greats

  • Fun and appealing package
  • Soft-edged compared to rivals

Officially, the Kia Proceed GT is rated at 38.2mpg. When some rivals quote figures over 40mpg the Kia’s figure doesn’t sound that impressive, but like many cars not explicitly designed for economy you can at least get within a whisker of that figure in real-world situations.

Depending on how you drive, of course. Our enthusiastically-driven long-term GT is doing closer to low-30s, though that typically involves a lot of short journeys and spirited use – we’ve seen mid-to-high 30s on longer runs, which should be typical for many drivers. Less typical is the 11-12mpg we've seen on several track days...

The Kia does score well in other areas of running costs too. For a start, anyone buying a new Proceed GT benefits from the same seven-year warranty you’d get on a new Kia Picanto, which also makes the Ceed an attractive used purchase since most on dealers’ forecourts will have several years of warranty left.

Insurance group 27 is lower than that of rivals like the Golf GTI too and there’s no reason to expect it to chew through consumables any quicker than its rivals – the Ceed certainly feels well bolted-together.
