Used car deals of the week: Mercedes-AMG A45 at a knock-down price

We dive into the classifieds to find the very best performance cars for the least amount of money, including a half-price Mercedes-AMG A45

The ‘hyper hatch’ has all but replaced the hot hatch wholesale, with affordable, front-wheel drive performance cars almost entirely extinct in 2025. Thanks to the wonders of the classifieds, though, you can still find plenty on offer and better still, for a fraction of their original prices. We’ve found a tempting Hyundai i30 N, and if you’re after something more potent, there’s even a Mercedes-AMG A45 for half the price of a new one.

We’ve also found a Defender V8 for around half the price of its new flagship Octa sibling, and if you’re looking for even more cylinders, there’s a solution to that dilemma too. For not much more than the price of a new BMW M5, you could have a V10-powered Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4…

Mercedes-AMG A45 S (2021)

£32,995

While you don’t need over 400bhp to have fun in a hot hatch, Affalterbach’s A45 S deploys such a power figure very effectively. Unlike the previous A45, Mercedes-AMG ensured its potent powertrain had a chassis to match, and as a result we got a hyper hatchback with more performance than some sports cars.

Its new price is eye-watering at over £60,000, but after 34,292 miles and a few years on the road, this car is available for around half that amount. Finished in Patagonia red, this car comes with numerous optional extras such as the Night and Drivers packages, and even comes with a handy ‘ghost’ immobiliser for security.

Hyundai i30 N (2019)

£22,399

The conventional hot hatch is all but dead, but thankfully, you can still find plenty on the classifieds. This 2019 Hyundai i30 N is a prime example, priced at £22,399 and with a low 29,664 miles on the clock. Painted in Polar white and equipped with the standard diamond cut 19-inch wheels with red detailing, it hasn't been modified like many, and the interior looks fresh too.

The i30 N is one of the greatest modern hot hatches we’ve seen, pairing real usability and buckets of tech for the price with top-class hot hatch performance. It might not have the stats to match hyper hatches like the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, but with a manual gearbox and power to the front wheels alone, it takes the hot hatch formula back to basics.

Land Rover Defender 110 V8 (2022)

£67,000

The Land Rover Defender Octa proves that huge size and weight don’t always make for a less engaging car, and its performance is so strong that it even earned a place on evo Car of the Year 2025. The only drawback is that it costs from around £150,000 new and while used examples are trading for under list, they’re still well out of reach for many. The ‘ordinary’ Defender V8, though, is a much more affordable alternative.

> Why the wild V8-powered Land Rover Defender D7X-R has ‘flight mode’

This is a car with nowhere near to the same dynamic sophistication as the Octa, and its ageing 5-litre V8 isn’t quite as capable either, but if you’re looking for a true offroader with some real character, this is a great way to go. After 46,099 miles on the road this Santorini black 110 is now on the market for £67,000, under half the price of a new Octa.

Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 (2015)

£127,990

The original Huracán LP610-4 was overshadowed by its more extreme Performante, STO and Evo siblings, but in isolation this first variant is something that shouldn’t be ignored. It might lack some of the edge of later models, but the combination of that 602bhp 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10, sharp looks and point-to-point pace that stands up today make it a great buy.

> Lamborghini Huracán STO (2021 - 2023) review – the ultimate hardcore Huracán

It’s an even greater buy when you consider the low price you’ll pay relative to other similarly capable supercars, with this particular example on the market for under £130,000 – that’s not much more than the price you’ll pay for a new BMW M5. This metallic blue example has only covered 14,300 miles in its 10 years on Britain’s roads, and it comes with a bold yellow and black interior too if that’s your style.
