Pagani Huayra R Evo Roadster driven at Spa – car pictures of the week
In issue 335 of evo magazine, we get behind the wheel of Pagani’s latest and greatest track-only hypercar around Spa-Francorchamps – these are our favourite shots
When it comes to dream car and track combinations, the Pagani Huayra R Evo Roadster around Spa-Francorchamps has got to be right up there. In issue 335 of evo, that dream became a reality, with our man Dickie Meaden getting a taste of the screaming V12 hypercar at a Pagani customer trackday. The numbers associated with the Evo Roadster are extraordinary. Its 6-litre naturally-aspirated V12 generates 888bhp and revs to 9250rpm, it weighs just 1060kg (dry), it generates over 1300kg of downforce and costs £3.9m. But as ever with Pagani, the figures are a supporting act to the detailing and engineering standards, which are utterly exquisite.
Its bodywork and chassis, for instance, are made from patented composites – including Carbo-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62 – and the cabin blends race car vibes with the kind of intricate, luxury finishes you’d expect from a road-legal Pagani. It all sets the tone for a car that’s even more spectacular to drive than it is to pore over in the pitlane.
‘It should be daunting, but the R Evo Roadster is immediately friendly,’ said Dickie. ‘Partly because the Pirelli slicks have just been pulled from their blankets, but mostly because the Roadster is so easy to operate. The steering is light but ultra-precise. Likewise, the Brembo CCMR brakes are great from the off and only gain in feel and bite as the pads and carbon discs come up to optimum temperature.
The electronically actuated gearshift is gunshot quick (around 45 milliseconds) and the engine as sharp as a cutthroat razor. Such mechanical harmony is a rare and joyful experience.’
