Volvo XC90 review - is range topping T8 hybrid any good? - Prices, specs and rivals

Volvo targets German SUVs – and creates a Range Rover rival

Evo rating
RRP
from £46,850
  • Stunning interior, quality feel, huge reserves of refinement
  • Not the sharpest thing to drive

Prices, Specs and Rivals

The range starts at £46,850 for the D5 in entry-level Momentum spec and rises to £64,555 for a T8 Inscription. There’s an ‘inverted wine glass’ structure to the specifications, as above Momentum buyers can choose from Inscription (luxury-focused) or R Design (sportier) – neither is considered a cut above the other.

Range-wide, equipment levels are generous. Momentum cars come with leather, 19-inch alloys, satnav, dual-zone climate control, LED lights, rear parking sensors, DAB and Bluetooth, an electronic tailgate and cruise control. R-Design versions come with bigger wheels and sports seats, while Inscription features luxuries such as high-grade leather upholstery.

The rivals are the Audi Q7, Mercedes GL, BMW X5 (and, by extension, the X6), Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and the Land Rover Discovery. Although, as we’ve said, the much pricier Range Rover and its Sport sibling ought to be seriously concerned by the sheer quality of the Volvo XC90.
