New BMW M3 Competition-based Manhart MH3 GTR packs 641bhp

German tuner Manhart Performance has released its second take on the G80 BMW M3, the MH3 GTR

Following its MH3 launched last year, Manhart Performance has now revealed an even more potent MH3 GTR. Based on the G80 BMW M3 Competition, the model features a substantial increase in power, a complete exhaust overhaul, new track-spec seats and a handful of exterior modifications.

Under the bonnet, Manhart has fitted the M3’s twin-turbocharged 3-litre S58 straight-six with its latest piggyback ECU tune, extracting more power through tweaks to ignition timing and fueling. Last year’s MH3 already produced a much bigger 612bhp peak, but the GTR lifts this to 641bhp and 590lb ft of torque – a healthy 138bhp and 111lb ft bump over a standard M3 Competition, more than even the eCoty-winning M5 CS

To ensure the newly upgraded engine management system’s performance, a bespoke stainless steel exhaust system is included in the package, complete with valve control to help manage volume during early morning starts. Enlarged 100mm exhaust tips in either carbon or ceramic can be optioned too, alongside particulate filter bypass pipes, race or sport-spec downpipes and a variety of catalytic converter options with varying levels of restriction.

Manhart has also fettled the chassis, fitting a new coilover system by KW Suspension, but its own lowering kit with springs from H&R can also be optioned for further improvements in handling and a lower stance. As with the standard MH3, 20-inch satin black Manhart Concave One wheels come as standard, this time wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, and they’re wider too, at 265- and 295-section front and rear. Behind those new wheels remain the G80’s standard brakes, but if you’d like some more stopping power for time on the track, Manhart will fit them for an extra cost.

Setting the MH3 GTR apart from a standard BMW M3 is a carbonfibre diffuser, lip spoiler, front canards and side skirts from M Performance. Though they won’t please everyone, Manhart will also adorn the model in its own decal set in either silver or gold. Inside, the cabin is almost entirely standard aside from the fitment of Recaro’s popular carbonfibre Podium bucket seats, weighing just 5.9kg a piece.
