Mazda RX-8 coupe production ends

Grab one while you still can - just 100 cars remain as RHD Mazda RX-8 production ends

The Mazda RX-8 is no more. Well, nearly – production of right-hand-drive cars has ended, with less than 100 UK examples left in UK stock. So if you crave a new rotary-engined four-door coupe, you’ll have to act quickly… We’ve been one of the most welcoming markets for Mazda’s rather revolutionary performance car, with over 26,000 of its 186,000 global sales coming from Great Britain. That’s around 14 per cent. ‘Over the next couple of months drivers will be presented with a rare opportunity to acquire one of the very last RX-8s available in the UK.  Its immense driver appeal, the world’s only rotary-powered production car is still a head-turner, with tremendous road presence and styling that still looks fresh.  A few lucky customers are going to play a part in the grand finale of this motoring legend’ reckons Mazda UK sales boss, Mark Cameron. While that might be a slightly overenthusiastic way of looking at things, it’s certainly big news. While the RX-8’s seven-year lifespan is above average for a European model, its loss comes due to increasingly strict emissions regulations. The Euro 5 rules that come into play in 2011 have already cost us the Ford Focus ST, Honda Civic Type-R and Alfa Romeo’s glorious 3.2-litre V6 engine. Mazda RX-8 v BMW 123D v Volvo C30 T5 v VW Scirocco Full story and gallery of evo’s Mazda RX-8 R3 long-termer Our very first drive of the Mazda RX-8 coupe from 2002
