Ethan Jupp

As web editor, Ethan works with the wider evo team to curate, write and publish the content you see on evo.co.uk. Whether it’s hot-button industry issues or reveals of the latest performance models, news is high on the agenda, as is writing and delegating the in-depth features and reviews that are evo’s staple output. Together, he and senior staff writers Sam and Yousuf are the architects of evo’s online operation. He joined evo after stints at Goodwood and Motoring Research.

Ethan says…

“So much has changed about performance cars in the years since I picked up my first copy of evo, to today. So much is still yet to change and it’s fascinating watching the world of performance cars contort itself to meet both the desires of customers and demands of legislation. Many are pessimistic about what the future holds for the world of fun cars but in our day to day, through the doom and gloom, beams of sunlight do burst through. I take pride in the job of trying to see the wood for the trees and tell you, the reader, exactly how the thrill of driving is best sought out, at such a tumultuous time for both the industry and consumers alike.”

Ethan Jupp Q&A

Q: What was your first car?

A: "Technically, a Fiat Cinquecento, which I owned for six weeks and didn’t get to drive, because someone decided it should be theirs instead without telling or asking me first. My first car I owned *and* ran was a Ford Ka, which quickly taught me how not to handle lift-off oversteer. A Peugeot 106 (that I still own and is currently being restored) took its place, as a more accommodating device with which to learn such techniques…

Q: What is your dream car?

A: "There are many answers to that question. My all-time dream bedroom wall poster car since I was 10? A Pagani Zonda C12S Roadster – perfection on four wheels. A car I hope to obtain at some point and keep forever, providing it doesn’t disappoint? A C6 Corvette Z06 – perfection (I hope), only made of plastic. Dream race car? That’s a toss-up between the Porsche 917, Matra MS11 and Ferrari 641.

Q: If you could change one thing about cars, driving or the car industry today what would it be?

A: "I’d make Gordon Murray the benign dictator presiding over everything to do with transport. He’s in charge of all the car companies and all governmental policy pertaining to motoring and transport. You just know the cars would be incredible and the policies would make sense. What’s that? The next Civic Type R will weigh under 1000kg, rev to 10,000rpm and put out less CO2 than the back of a badger? Clearly, I made the right call."
