Aesthetically, the current Cayman is certainly an advance on its predecessor, with a more muscular mein to its styling borrowed from the mk3 Boxster’s appearance which itself is inspired by the 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar. The Cayman is 33mm longer than before but with much shorter overhangs. The wheelbase is stretched by 60mm and the front and rear track widths are pumped, too, though the car itself is no wider.

With the rear spoiler cutting neatly into the tail-lights, there’s a grace in the Cayman’s precise detailing, too, while the optional 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels do look rather good, if a dubious choice for the 2.7-litre car if you want to exploit the chassis’ balance. Based on the regular 2.7, the recently-introduced Cayman Black Edition gets these wheels as standard, along with an all-black colour scheme and improved equipment levels.

The more powerful GTS also gets 20-inch alloys as standard, as well as slightly redesigned bumpers, unique badging and lashings of Alcantara and leather in the cabin. The GT4? It looks simply fantastic.
